The warm-hearted team at our Johannesburg branch go out of their way to support local communities wherever possible, throwing their weight and financial support behind some really inspirational initiatives. In this feature we highlight some of their recent involvements in a range of children’s charities!
“There can be no keener revelation of a society's soul than the way in which it treats its children.” - Nelson Mandela
South Africa’s future lies with its children, but the sad reality is that these same children are frequently the most vulnerable members of society, and in need of assistance to achieve their dreams.
In addition to other charitable initiatives – such as Branch Manager Mel Potgieter sleeping on the streets for a good cause – the team at Stuttaford Van Lines’ Johannesburg branch are role models when it comes to balancing their professional responsibilities with their selfless participation in causes which benefit youth.
Recent beneficiaries have included Kids Haven, Childline South Africa, Casa Caritas, Ivory Park High School and the Reach for a Dream Foundation. Click on each title below to see more photographs on Facebook!
In recognition of Cell C’s 'Bring a Girl Child to Work Day', the branch hosted 10 female students from Ivory Park High School's grades 10-11. The girls were inspired by seeing Stuttaford Van Lines' staff in action, including our specialised Fine Art packing and the construction of custom-made wooden crates; and an interactive yard.
Three senior branch staff members – Corporate Account Manager Karin Steyn, Fine Art Executive Margarida Fernandes and International Export Manager Marinda Redpath (accompanied by her two children) – paid a recent visit to Benoni to bring joy to Kids Haven’s children’s lives. They brought party packs, balloons and juice with them, and even explored their creative side by painting the children’s faces! Naturally it was wildly popular with the children, and everybody had fun.
Referring to Nelson Mandela’s famous quote at the start of this story, there could have been no better way for the branch’s staff to spend Mandela Day than giving their 67 minutes to the children of Casa Caritas. Bringing along snacks and joining the children in playtime, judging by the photographs it looks like the staff’s hugs were the most valuable gift of the day!
“Our marketing team here in Johannesburg are very passionate, and often will get involved with the community either directly, or through our corporate accounts,” says Rocco Olivier, National Marketing Manager. “We truly care, and often these actions lead to much more than what meets the eye.”
We thank Stuttaford Van Lines’ Johannesburg team for embodying the brand’s caring nature through such simple yet moving initiatives, and look forward to sharing their future projects!
