Stuttaford Van Lines has a proud heritage that dates back to the mid-1800s, and it’s because of dedicated staff members such as Cathy Riet that we’ll continue to build upon this legacy. Cathy recently celebrated 20 years of service with the company (a rare feat in today’s working world), so we thought it would be a fitting tribute to share the story of her journey with us.
Cathy started her career at Stuttaford Van Lines Kimberley in 1994 as a cleaner and packer. Her first manager, Kowie Gerrits, was the man who opened the Kimberley branch. He probably had no idea that, 20 years later, this kind, resourceful lady with the warm personality would still be an integral member of the Kimberley team!
Her colleagues describe her as hard-working, loyal and trustworthy – someone who’s able to deal with any situation. She’s been known to win over even the most challenging customers.
In her time with the company, Cathy has climbed the ranks and is now a supervisor and packer. Her “can do” attitude sees her tackling a wide variety of tasks – anything from organising the office coffee run to making sure the office stays spotless, and expert packing at a customer’s home.
As you can imagine after 20 years, Cathy has a lot of memories and funny stories to share. She recalls one customer who was not keen on letting our male staff pack up her belongings. Cathy had no choice but to travel along with the truck to Cape Town to go and help the lady.
Imagine her surprise when she was put up at the customer’s home as if she was on holiday – a private room with a sea view and all meals included … for a whole week! What a treat!
Cathy will be retiring at the end of this year and will be sorely missed. Our loss is her family’s gain – in addition to being an active member of her church, Cathy has three sons, one daughter, and three grandchildren, who she intends to spend a lot more time with and spoil as only a granny can.
Stuttaford Van Lines would like to thank Cathy for her invaluable contribution over the years and we wish her all the best for the future!
