Before the move
Lots of questions
It is very important for you to ask your Mommy and Daddy everything that you would like to know about the move. Write down as many questions as you can think of.
Address book
Ask your friends for their phone numbers, home address, email address and birthdays so that you can put them in your address book.
Scrapbook / Photo Album
Make a scrapbook with all your favourite memories to take with you when you move. You can also put photos of your friends and favourite places in a photo album.
Say goodbye
Think of all the people that you would like to say goodbye to. You can visit them, write them a letter, send them an email or phone them. If you like you can ask the people who you visit for a photo to put in your album.
Special places
Write a list of all your favourite places and try to visit them before you move, like the park, beach, skating rink, movies, library. You could even collect things to put in your scrapbook or take photos for your album.
Design your new room
Have fun thinking of ways you could decorate your bedroom in your new home. What colour would you like to paint the walls? What pictures would you like to hang? Where would you like your bed and to put all your things? Paint or draw a picture of how you would like your room to look.
The Big Move
Packing your boxes
Now is a very good chance for you to sort through all your goodies and keep the things that you really want. You might like to donate to the needy any toys, books, or clothing that you don't want.
Offer your help
Your Mom and Dad are going to be very busy during the move. Ask them to give you a list of things to do to help them.
Fun Stuff
Pack a bag full of some fun stuff to keep you busy during the move, such as toys, books, games and CD’s. These can also keep you busy while you are waiting for your boxes to arrive at your new home.
After the move
Memorise
Try to memorise your new address and telephone number as soon as possible.
Time to decorate
Now you can have a look at the design that you created for your new bedroom and put it into action!
Make Contact
By now your friends will be missing you – send them an email to tell them about your move and how you are settling in.
Explore
Investigate your new neighbourhood and make a note of the things that you like. |
